Yoweri Museveni – President of Uganda
Once told to “go away” by crotchety pop philanthropist, Bob Geldof, Yoweri Museveni shows no intention of doing so. The former guerilla, credited with ousting the notorious Idi Amin in 1979, has been president of Uganda since 1985. Despite being lauded for political reforms and handling of the HIV/AIDS crisis, he now faces a backlash internationally for his refusal to give up power.
Recently re-elected for a fourth term, Museveni will almost certainly be around for a while longer. Here he is in his underpants and signature hat, the mark of a leader who means to stand out in an increasingly crowded space.
