World Leaders in Their Underpants #80

Salva Kiir Mayardit - President of South SudanSalva Kiir Mayardit – President of South Sudan

We recently featured Montenegrin premier, Igor Luksic, the world’s youngest head of state. Today we visit The Republic of South Sudan, the worlds youngest nation. Independence was declared in July 2011 and the first president of this swampy republic is Salva Kiir Mayardit, seen here in his underpants.

South Sudan’s independence is the result of one of the world’s longest running civil wars, in which Kiir fought throughout the 1960s. Despite the youth of his nation, Kiir has understood one of the first lessons of leadership. If you want to stand out on the crowded world stage, you need a trademark hat.

Kiir takes his black stetson, allowable under the special World Leaders mandate stipulating the freedom to wear hats and/or sashes, and enters the alternative world stage. The one I’m steadily filling with near-naked chieftains.
