Bhumibol Adulyadej – King of Thailand
As we have seen, heads of state come in all shapes and sizes. There are several sub-species of this peculiar animal, from dictators to monarchs, chancellors to premiers. Often, according to the vagaries of a particular constitution, a state may be a many-headed beast, boasting a President, a Prime Minister and perhaps even a King or Queen. How then shall we choose the head of state to parade around in the not quite all together?
Thailand is such a case. One of those countries boasting both a King and a Prime Minister; a modern day parliamentary democracy that harbours an old-fashioned monarch, just for a laugh. You could easily have been enjoying Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minsiter of Thailand, but it is Rhama IX who has boldly stepped forward, if only because he is the world’s longest-serving head of state. It would be rude not to. Please show your respect for King Bhumibol Adulyadej. In his underpants.
Previous heads of state are still flouncing about half-naked here.
