Qaboos bin Said Al Said – Sultan of Oman
There are many species of world leader, and in the course of this series we shall meet them all. For example, the head of state in his underpants on behalf of Oman is a Sultan. Qaboos bin Said al Said sits atop an Islamic absolute monarchy and he has done so since he toppled his own father in 1970. This is how monarchy is done properly, and the heirs to the British throne would do well to take note.
Qaboos holds several other honorary titles, among them, Admiral of the Fleet of the Royal Navy of Oman. A notorious super-yacht enthusiast, his latest vessel contains an orchestra pit, and he is shown here at the ship’s wheel. A Sultan is also a breed of chicken originating from Turkey.
