World Leaders in Their Underpants #13

Mohamed Hussein TantawiMohamed Hussein Tantawi – Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Egypt

The reign of some world leaders is short, and it is likely there are nations whose leaders will have to be redrawn before my work is done. In fact, it is likely that my work shall never end, with new leaders dropping their trousers as fast as I can present them to you.

Until very recently, Egypt had a president. You may have heard of him; his name was Hosni Mubarak. But the Egyptian people stood together and demanded that it not be he who represents their ancient civilization on the world stage. In fact, they’ve not yet made up their minds about who should have this honour. For now they are a military junta, under the chairmanship of another Mohamed. It’s his job to dissolve the existing Egyptian parliament following the revolution that toppled Mubarak, an honour which also gains him entry into another special clique: World Leaders in Their Underpants.

If only things had gone so well in Libya, for whom I hope to draw a new leader soon.
