Emomalii Rahmon – President of Tajikistan
Tacked firmly at the centre of the Afro-Eurasian super-continent, Tajikistan is a mountainous republic, impoverished by civil war. Half the population are children, and their destinies are in the hands of President Emomalii Rahmon, seen here in his underpants.
As a former cotton farmer, Rahmon knows a thing or two about discreet undergarments designed for warmth, support and protection from our manifold secretions. This knowledge has served him well as he has clung to the underpants of power for nearly two decades. Like many before him, Rahmon has not been averse to constitutional tinkering, and at seven years a pop, he has only had to suffer 2 elections since coming to power in 1994.
As is so often the case, bothersome international observers have had the temerity to suggest these elections might not be free and fair, but how else can Rahmon (formerly Rahmonov before a purge of Russian sounding family names) be sure of securing his place among the World Leaders in Their Underpants?
