Sir Anerood Jugnauth – President of Mauritius
Prior to his current stint as President of Mauritius, Sir Anerood Jugnauth served 16 years as Prime Minister, earning himself the nickname Rambo on account of his apparent indestructibility. Why not “Juggernaut,” I thought. Sir Anerood “Juggernaut” Jugnauth. Come on Mauritians. Does the wordplay not work so well in Mauritian Creole, the most widely spoken language in this island nation? Or is it because the population is 52% Hindu, and the word juggernaut derives from the Hindu deity, Jagannath, a square-headed god with saucer-like eyes and no legs?
Rambo it is, then.
Sir Anerood “Rambo” Jugnauth is the first knight of the realm to join World Leaders in Their Underpants. This is “Rambo” Jugnauth, leader of the Militant Socialist Movement of Mauritius. One wonders if Queen Elizabeth II (for it was she who bestowed the honour) has seen fit to knight any militant socialists in her own country. I’m desperate to work a reference to dodos into this paragraph, but I can’t for the life of me work out how. I doubt anyone reads this far anyway, so perhaps it’s enough that I mentioned them.
