Andry Rajoelina – President of the High Transitional Authority, Madagascar
Former disc jockey Andry Rajoelina, nicknamed TGV after the French high speed train, has been president of Madagascar’s High Transitional Authority since a 2009 military coup brought him to power. He exists in a kind of political limbo due to the scant international recognition for his government.
Constitutions can often be a nuisance for would-be presidents, but those with initiative simply tinker until they fit their own agenda. Andry Rajoelina, for example, a mere 36-years on taking office, had to amend Madagascar’s constitution to disregard his age. This makes him the world’s second youngest head of state after Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Igor Lukšic.
As Montenegro has yet to feature in World Leaders in Their Underpants, little Andry joins his contemporaries as the most junior pant-wearing president. Go easy on him.
